Don’t know how to turn on the Rinnai Tankless Water Heater? Then, try these steps to sturn on and use your Rinnai Water Heater like a champ: 

  • Press the On/off button to turn on your water heater.
  • Tap on the Priority button if the Priority Light is off.
  • Adjust the temperature by pressing the Up or the Down button.

  • This tankless water heater doesn’t feature a pilot. It comes with an ignition device, which automatically lights the burner. Never try to light the burner using your hand. 
  • Before operating, small all the area around the water heater for gas. If you smell gas, never try to light the burner. Don’t touch any electric switch, even stay away from your mobile phone. Use your neighbor’s phone to call your gas supplier. 
  • Never use any tools to turn the gas control valve. Instead of tools, use only your hand to turn the gas control valve. If you fail to turn on the gas valve by hand, don’t try to repair it. Instead, call a certified plumber for further assistance. 
  • Don’t use your tankless water heater if any part of the unit submerges under water. 

How To Turn On A Rinnai Tankless Water Heater?

This chapter will help you operate or turn on the Rinnai Tankless Water Heater, especially if it’s a new installation. Let’s walk through the step-by-step procedure to turn on the tankless water heater like a champ: 

  • Start by reading the safety information I described above.
  • Set the temperature controller to the lowest setting.
  • Turn off the electricity to your tankless water heater by flipping down the circuit breaker.
  • This water heater has an ignition device that will automatically light the burner. It means it has no pilot and stops you from lighting the burner by hand.
  • Locate the manual gas control valve at the gas inlet and turn it clockwise to the Off position.  
  • Wait for five minutes to clear out any gas. If you smell gas, do what I recommended in the above chapter. If not, go forward to the next step. 
  • Turn the manual gas control valve counterclockwise to the full On position.
  • Restore electric power to the appliance. 
  • Set the temperature controller to the desired setting. 
  • If the tankless water heater won’t operate, turn off the gas supply to the unit. Then, call a service technician or gas supplier. 

How Do You Use a Rinnai Tankless Water Heater?

You know how to turn on the Rinnai Tankless Water Heater. Now, it’s time to learn how to use the appliance to get steamy water. Regarding this, follow the below steps: 

1. Locate The Control Panel: You can locate the control panel buttons on the outside front panel for indoor water heaters. If you have an outdoor model, you can access the controller buttons by opening the front panel.

2. Turn On The Unit: Press the On/Off button on the control panel if your tankless water heater is off. 

3. Press the Priority Button: The Priority button lets you enable a controller if you have multiple controllers to control your tankless water heater. Press that button, and the orange Priority light will glow. It indicates that the controller is controlling the temperature, and the unit is ready to supply hot water. 

4. Set The Temperature: Press the Up button to increase the temperature. Or, you can decrease the output temperature by pressing the Down button. In short, those two buttons will help you obtain the desired temperature setting. 

5. Accessing the Performance Data: You can learn about every helpful insight like water flow rate, outgoing temperature, fan frequency, and more by entering the performance data. Go along with these steps to access the Performance Data: 

  • Press and hold the Down button
  • While holding down the Down button for two seconds, press and hold the On/Off button. You should hold down both buttons simultaneously. 
  • Use either the Up or the Down button to scroll to the information described in the Performance Data Table. 
  • Repeat the step 2 to exit the Performance Data. 

6. Accessing the Diagnostic Codes: By entering the Diagnostic Codes, you can learn about the problem your water heater is going through. Follow these steps to display the diagnostic codes:

  • Turn off your water heater by pressing the On/Off button.
  • Press and hold down the On/Off button for two seconds. Then, hold down the Up button simultaneously. 
  • It will show you the last nine maintenance codes, flashing one after the other. 

Repeat step 2 to close the diagnostic codes. Then, turn on your tankless water heater by pressing the On/Off button. 

Why Won’t My Rinnai Heater Turn On?

Your Rinnai Water heater won’t turn on due to one of the following reasons, including: 

  • The electric supply to the unit is off. 
  • The gas valve on the water heater may be off. 
  • This water heater has a minimum flow rate to initiate the water heater. If the flow rate is lower, you will fail to turn on the water heater.
  • Incorrect fuel type and inlet gas pressure may prevent the unit from turning on.
  • Air in the gas line stops the unit from turning on.
  • The ground wire for the PC board is faulty.
  • The flame rod wire may come loose. 
  • The igniter is inoperational, or it gets covered with debris. 
  •  Incorrect gas orifice. 

Why Am I Not Getting Hot Water From My Rinnai Tankless Water Heater?

Your Rinnai Tankless Water Heater will produce no hot water if: 

  • The inlet gas pressure is low. 
  • Insufficient gas supply or the fuel type is incorrect. 
  • The inlet water filter gets clogged by debris buildup.
  • The water supply valve gets clogged, or there is a blockage in the water supply pipe. 
  • Blockage in the heat exchanger causes the unit to produce no hot water. 
  • You may set the temperature to a lower setting. 
  • You may overload the system. For example, if you run multiple appliances like a washing machine or dishwasher, the tankless water heater will fail to deliver hot water.
